Error enabling Enable advanced usage analysis processing on SpUsageConfig.aspx

There’s a small bug in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 that prevents users other than the SSP process account from Enable advanced usage analysis processing in your Shared Services Provider. The error isn’t as much of an error as an oversight by Microsoft, if you grant the acting user rights under Personalization services permissions. Once you have added the user to this list enabling the advanced usage process will work.

      Lou,

Remember, I’m a contractor, not a Msft employee so if you’re saying that the UI is a little confusing, I agree – thus the blog article. To get advanced usage analysis to work you will have to complete the following steps

      • Open SharePoint Central Administration – a link will be installed in your server’s administrative tools
      • Select your Shared Service provider under “Shared Services Administration”
      • Select “Personalization Services Permissions”
      • Add your application pool account (or account that will be responsible for compiling analytics) – this should be a service account
      • Start the “advanced usage analysis” process
